About SASC

Selvamm Arts and Science College was established by the pioneer in poultry industry and a philanthropist, Dr.P.Selvaraj in 2000, under the auspices of V.Ponnusamy Educational and Charitable Trust, which was formed in the fond memory of his late father. The college is fully self-supporting and it has been founded to serve the youth of the predominantly agricultural, underprivileged and downtrodden families in the neighbourhood. Started with 3 courses, 7 faculty members and an initial intake of 77 students in a temporary building on the Trichy Road, the college was shifted to the present sprawling Selvam Campus the next year, 2001.

At present, the college has student strength of about 2500 – mostly from the vernacular medium with the ratio of men and women students being 65:35. Their economic background is poor and their school education has been acquired through the vernacular medium. A team of 130 qualified competent and dedicated faculty members is committed to duty, discipline and service. The college offers 18 UG courses, 10 PG courses, 7 M.Phil., programmes, 4 Certificate Courses and 35 Skill Based Courses which have high employment potential, with the aim of making the students employable, self-employable or becoming entrepreneurs.
Within a span of nine years, the college has grown vertically and horizontally thereby providing upward mobility to our students. This institution tries to enrich the students with an education, which is intellectually challenging, ethically sensitive, socially compassionate and academically sound.
